St. Alban [in progress]

It still needs a little bit of white highlight, but almost done nonetheless.

I believe we all have a freedom of choice whether it be of aesthetic or tradition.

Thank you all for your input.

WHYY Does have a great show…

I was(am still) doing a drawing for my clients Mr. J and E. I’m not that much of a fan of TV shows but when I’m working alone, I’d turn it on just for the noise to keep myself company.

It was the Front Line World on WHYY when I started to pay a bit of attention. It was covering journalists in the current time of war.

Touching it was, the passion of all the journalists. You can see the fury, the passion, the desperation to tell the truth, to shape the unbiased opinion for the wold to take in.

The show was concluded as some college professor commenting on how we are human because we can express ourselves. As I was doing my work, it has hit me pretty hard that because of those who fought for the preservation of balance and equality in the system, we all have right to exist and entitled to be who we are…

Those journalists who were targeted during this war lost their lives in the collision of different ideas, the old and new. Collision of intents of self preservation has such strength to reach to the point of occasional assassinations of journalists in this case. That is kind of sad. Its just a difference in the point o view, religion, and mannerism. It is a very hard subject to digest for a person like myself- a product of contemporary materialistic country. Selfish it is but I’m just gonna thank and be grateful for what I got here…

Show like this realizes me to pay more attention to the world- the history that’s been created and produced. But at the same time I normally find myself thinking of my work, my projects and be quite euphoric listening to my music. This is my reality. This is my life. I wish not to be taken away from here (that’s a kind of dilemma people in the matrix the movie had. One of my smart client recommended me a book called The Matrix and the Philosophy. Its a fun read. We should all check it out. )… Anyhow the point was that WHYY does have a good show.

Had a couple of design consultations today but that went smooth. A new client and a new design project, Its gonna be a busy exciting weekend.

elcamino
This moron (needless to say i) does not have a car forced to commute via train every day. It has been so long since i drove or ride anything with a motor on it. If i could get an EL-Camino (again needless to say the sexiest car on the planet) I might consider about making the switch… til then.

As usual while on the train i read. I was skimming through the book for about 2 whole pages til i caught myself not really reading. It happens every now and then as eyes chase those words in a sentence after sentence, it just does not register as something meaningful until hitting the one appealing. Whether trying to get to the next page or simply not into the book, its pretty annoying catching myself not digesting those messages.

i was gonna upload some new pics but instead i’m sleeping. Could someone go get me sandwich from wawa? i’m hungry.

Break time!

For my ear: Motorhead/overnight sensation
Activity: taking a break from drawing an eagle which i better really finish…

Must take a break. It is pretty therapeutic drawing for hours on the end, but its time to step back a little.

I think strong contrast makes a great focal point of the design – it lets the design/drawing to stand out from the background(paper/skin). at the same time it is also important not to make every part of the design to be equally detailed, in such case design will become boring in a way.

Kind of like how a music is composed. It can be like this for example…
Intro- verse- verse- bridge- chorus- solo- verse- verse- bridge- chorus- chorus- outro
or
Intro- verse- verse- bridge- chorus- solo- bridge- chorus- chorus, etc.

In drawing… for example this time an eagle with flag.
The face- focus in detail
wings next to the face- high contrast but soft to frame the face
The stripes- strong but placement should be not too close to the face so that it won’t compete with the face
body- well defined but not to have as much detail as the face or except for the selective feather

The great composition is like that of a fine balance of sugar, salt, and pepper. You can’t have too much of one nor everything. Finding that right amount is so fin difficult but when it is right, ya know, its good, period. Haha, i shouldn’t be writing this but great sex is like that too. Its kinda tongue and cheeky to say composing a music on paper but i guess that’s what they meant literally when they say “composition”. does that make sense? maybe that’s the reason why some of the musicians make a great visual artist. (then again if i say it like so, they could be a chef too?) I know off hand 5 musician/artist who are just fin amazing. maybe i should go play some instrument and it might make me a better artist, ha. speed is another subject…but next time.

On some political art and such (especially the PC kinds):
well in art I think execution matters. But some of art with great concept lacks keen execution. Its like a really bad singer in a really awesome band. But then again people’s tastes are all different and unique, so what do i know. (They can like the genesis or slayer. I rather be latter, though) Well art with purpose of communication does have a different agenda from arts for arts sake. Its to make a point of expressing their opinion to the mass. That’s where things gets funny. Is it art because it is produced in arts media or is it not art because it only utilizes the visual aid for communication. I recognize graffiti as art but not the stupid stencil stuff.
***i need to rewrite this one.

In my ear:
“Blessed black wing:High on fire”
“Age of Quarrel: Cro-Mags”

current book:
“The idea of the self” by Jerrold Seigel

By chance, a friend o mine knows a person who has studied philosophy as minor in col. So it happens, in a correspondence, Rousseau and Hobbs were mentioned. By all means Hobbs were never under my radar and subsequently i am not at all familiar with him.

As far as Rousseau is concerned, I am little bit familiar w his life thanks to the 90min. series by Paul Strathern (in audio, geek.), however, not his writings. So, I decided to skipp the book to chapter7: Wholeness, withdrawal, and self-revelation: Rousseau.

So far this chapter has introduced his novels and a coupla discourses which he has authored (with simple time line and social and political background of the time): Julie, The new Heloise( character mentioned: Savoyars Vicar); Arts and Sciences, The origins of Inequality, The social Contract, then, Emile (ha. That’s my niece’s name.), confessions.

Apparently, “his literary efforts were almost wholly devoted to defense and self-justification.” and in his autobiographical “Confessions” is “famous for its singular project of self-revelation.” And he experiences “delayed identification” of self-hood.

This guy parts with his mother at his birth and also with his father at the age of 10, because of a class dispute brought upon his father. He grows up, gets ambitious, moves to Paris. Wrote stuff which did not agree to his protestantism roots and later it turns on him when he decided to move back to Geneva. Blah blah blah.

-Speaking of Geneva, Jo Keitho, a print maker, once received an award for his art there at the city. He could not attend the show because of his Korean nationality living in Japan; he could not prepare himself a passport.-

So the point here is that 1. since I rarely take a break to reflect on what it is I’m reading except to take notes in the book, missing the essence it has to offer, so to prevent that. 2. also if someone is willing to share and exchange thoughts, that will make my day…

Now i better go do my drawings….
